Governor Rick Perry vetoes bill, steps up

20 Jun

Governor Rick Perry did something I can wholeheartedly agree with last Friday; he vetoed a bill that would ban texting while driving.

The initial bill, pushed forward by former House Speaker Tom Craddick, would have banned reading and texting while driving by making them criminal offenses.

Sure, Perry might have cut  billions of dollars from the budget this year so we could keep our Rainy Day Funds intact – an ironic title for a fund surplus we never dip in to even when there are Forrest fires popping up all around Texas, burn bans in 210 counties and our state needing reserve movies. Subsequently, Perry might have screwed our education system over for the next 10 years, but hey – you can now read and text while driving if you are over 18 with little fear of a misdemeanor charge to accompany your action.

Thanks, Ricky Perry for putting the icing on another successful Legislative session!
